In a wide-ranging interview on Meet the Press this weekend, former President Donald Trump told Kristen Welker he made the call to chase the false narrative that he won the 2020 election, and he took a dig at presidential rival Gov. Ron DeSantis, calling Florida's six-week abortion ban "a terrible mistake." One thing Trump refused to comment on was what he was up to as the chaos unfolded on Capitol Hill Jan. 6, 2021.
One thing that will never be said about Donald Trump: You just never know what that guy's thinking. |

Iran says it will exchange prisoners with the United States today after $6 billion in once-frozen Iranian assets reached Qatar. The planned swap involves five individuals from each country, including five Iranian Americans who could board a Qatar Airways plane that landed Monday morning at Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport where previous prisoner releases have taken place.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is in full-on search mode for the person or people who shot a deputy who was driving his patrol car. Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer was rushed to the hospital after he was found unconscious, but doctors were unable to save him. The department believes this was a targeted attack and officers are trying to track down any surveillance video that could help find the killer.

Embattled Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was acquitted of impeachment charges — and he's already back to work. The married AG faced 16 articles of impeachment related to corruption and bribery, and perhaps the most salacious were complaints that he was giving special access to a donor who also happened to employ his mistress. He still faces two criminal counts of securities fraud.

Autoworkers continue to strike GM, Ford and Stellantis plants after negotiations failed to get anywhere last week. The United Auto Workers are demanding a 40% raise — that's how much the Big 3's CEOs have received over the last four years. For the moment, the strike shouldn't cause car shortages, which could increase prices (a problem because we sure aren't getting 40% raises here at Need2Know), but if consumers panic buy, that could cause a run on supply.
If it becomes impossible to buy a sensible sedan, we're getting one of these bad boys: |

U.N. Climate Week is underway and kicked off with tens of thousands of people rallying in New York City on Sunday. A number of notable quotables spoke, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Susan Sarandon, and much of the focus was on fossil fuels. Protesters say the Biden administration hasn't done nearly enough to stop production in the U.S.

Four women told British newspapers that comedian Russell Brand raped or sexually assaulted them during the height of his career. Brand said he was "very, very promiscuous" but insists all of his relations were "absolutely, always consensual." Brand is now known for his online wellness persona but has received criticism for questioning Covid-19 vaccines and hanging with the likes of Joe Rogan.

There was rapid fallout this weekend for Rolling Stone magazine co-founder Jann Wenner after The New York Times printed an interview with him where he seemed to disparage basically anyone in music who isn't a white man. One day later Wenner was kicked off the board of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which he also co-founded. Wenner later apologized for using poor wording during the interview.
As Marvin Gaye might have asked, What's Going On with Wenner? |

Being a lawyer isn't always what it's cracked up to be. Like many people, Eli Castro went to law school, as his parents wanted him to, and he kept winning in the courtroom. But also like many people, at some point he realized he should be doing something he actually wanted to do. So he took a leap of faith and landed off-Broadway in the show Law & DISorder. Check out the thoughts from this funny guy.
Have you heard the one about the lawyer who walks into a comedy club... |
