Israel resumed its offensive in the Gaza Strip, just minutes after a weeklong truce with Hamas expired Friday. Fighter jets struck several targets as other aircraft dropped leaflets urging people in some parts of southern Gaza to leave their homes. Qatar said negotiators were working to restart the cease-fire, during which Hamas freed 100 of 240 hostages, and 240 Palestinians were released from Israeli jails.

More than three decades after the federal government started regulating lead levels in drinking water, the Biden administration proposed a requirement for cities to replace lead water pipes within 10 years. More than 9 million lead pipes bring water into homes around the U.S., a problem that disproportionately affects older industrial areas and poor, majority-Black cities like Flint, Mich.
Congressman George Santos refused to resign yesterday for what may be the last time. The House will hold another vote to expel the Long Island Republican today, and this time members have a detailed report of scandalous campaign finance violations to throw at him. Santos warned his expulsion would create a precedent for more removals.
Setting a precedent to expel members who steal campaign money for personal purposes … seems like a good thing?

A New York appeals court reinstated a gag order to prevent Donald Trump from speaking publicly about court staff after the former president continued to disparage the main law clerk of Judge Arthur Engoron in his state fraud trial. Trump has also recently targeted the judge's wife.
5. FIGHTING (SOME) MISINFORMATION
Meta revealed that it deleted a network of nearly 4,800 Facebook accounts apparently designed to spread polarizing political content in the 2024 election. Critics said Meta uses its crackdowns on fake accounts to distract from its policy that actually allows misinformation.
6. GAS PRICES & CYBERTRUCKS
OPEC+, the cartel that drills two in five barrels of the world's oil, is trying to raise prices by cutting supplies into next spring. But the new production cuts announced yesterday could be offset by lower demand from a global economy that is expected to cool off next year.
TESLA TRUCKS: None of the fuss over oil prices matters to you if you just got your Tesla Cybertruck. The first dozen or so of the angular electric trucks were delivered yesterday — two years behind schedule.
New Cybertruck owners might not be worried about gas prices, but they did just buy a truck for at least $61,000. You do the math.
Tesla's Cybertruck is ready for a game of Minecraft.
Having never done a barre workout before, we assumed it entails visiting a dance studio with those terrifyingly unavoidable mirrors on every wall. But it turns out the "ballet barre" can be a chair, umbrella or anything else that helps keep your balance during the exercises, says Equinox trainer Danielle Reynolds, who led us through a few of them.
8. SO YOU MISSED THE CYBER MONDAY DEALS
We mistakenly thought all stores were making Cyber Monday into Cyber Week and, as a result, we missed out on some deeply discounted jogger pants. (Guess we can't go jogging now.) If you're feeling some savings FOMO, Christie Matherne has some advice for finding the discounts still remaining before Christmas.
Wait, if the jogger pants get discounted again, does that mean we have to go jogging after all?
Knowing that it's not exactly everyone's favorite government service, the TSA has wisely chosen to remind people of its hottest team members. Say hello to the dogs of the 2024 TSA Canine Calendar.

Wondering what to watch this weekend? We recommend a 111-year-old musical Christmas tradition, a new season in the high-drama world of the Power, and a magical Wes Anderson short starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
One thing we love: Planning holiday gatherings. Our soup swap party is gonna be wild.
One thing we hate: Getting our banking app's weekly spending summary the week after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. 💸☠️
One thing we ate*: A frozen watermelon agua fresca. With a couple dashes of citric acid (the second ingredient in sour sugar), we made it taste like a liquid Jolly Rancher.
*OK, OK — one thing we drank.
